Just another Learnerblogs.org weblog

Now that we have read more of the book, I am starting to get more interested, and I truly enjoy the book. One of the biggest symbols in the reading so far, in my opinion, has been the bird. I think the bird represents someone coming to act as a companion of sorts. The old man has been wishing for, and missing the boy. Almost just as soon as these thoughts drift away, the warbling bird comes along.

Stay at my house if you like, bird, he said. I am sorry I cannot hoist the sail and take you in with the small breeze that is is rising. But I am with a friend.

I also think this line helped to show something about the old man’s personality, because of the warmth and compassion he showed towards the bird. He was sorry for the bird for being so tired, and was offering him a place to rest. I am excited to finish reading the book, and see how the story progresses.

Tyler and Missy both talked about that bird too.
